Your Water, Your Tax $ and Drought
Mr. Edwards, Some thoughts in response to your article today: How Design Can Save Us: Waterhog and Groundhog “Even as Atlanta and Florida were running out of it, people still were sprinklering their lawns; that is why climate change is such a hard sell, it doesn’t affect us personally and immediately yet. In Australia, they have been feeling the effects of drought for a couple years,...

Jack Nicholson riffs on politics - CNN.com- AND... →
Politics aside, I agree with the grizzled, old, baby boomer movie idol when he says: “Solar electricity is the only thing that can make an impact on this problem. It’s too big. We don’t have the ability to generate the electricity, to convert, unless we go to big solar. It’s an engineering problem, it’s not a scientific problem.” That said, I would like to blog...
Google Tech Talks on Installing Solar Energy :... →
Running through an overview of the technology; the process of installing a system; key questions to ask; examples; solar energy myths, and a Q&A, this provides a pretty comprehensive introduction. It’s not, perhaps, the most thrilling presentation in the world, but it does cover all the basics.

1000 MW of Solar in the Negev? →
The video is very cool and well worth watching. Of course Richmond does not have the same solar potential as the Negev. But there is no reason why Richmonders cannot harness the solar it does have.

Local Rail CEO Says Passenger Rail Not Feasible
I was taken aback by this post on Jim Bacon’s blog. Norfolk Southern CEO Charles Moorman doesn’t see much future for passenger rail in the United States, but he does foresee a bright future for freight rail. I was glad to see that I was not the only one to disagree with him.

Last Night...
After work last night I hurried downtown to City Hall to take part in a public hearing on the new Downtown Master Plan. While I represented my neighborhood association, Charles Price, Virginia SC Chapter President, was dutifully there to represent the Sierra Club. Unfortunately, I had to leave early and did not get to hear his speech, but I am sure it included the proposed easement on the James...
